When it comes to sewing for either work or gifts I always follow through, but when I have an idea for something to make for myself, I never seem to take the time to make it. Lately I have been overwhelmed with so many ideas of things i would like to make- dresses, dog bed, chair upholstery, laptop bag... This week I decided to take a bit of time each day to work out a dress design that has been lingering in my head for a while. I completed the last of the hand stitching last night by a candle during a power outage.

It's a jumper style dress made with a light grey linen/cotton. The accents on the shoulders and at the bottom hem are made with a natural organic linen. The upper bodice is lined with a white linen/cotton and I hand
stitched little + symbols on the shoulder patches using a
turquoise silk
embroidery thread.

I didn't use a pattern and I didn't draft a pattern either. I just draped it on my
judy- this is the only way I enjoy sewing clothing, probably due to studying fashion at art school. I find it allows me to make design decisions as I go and is a much more creative and intuitive way of sewing than using a pattern.
